Norealis Pipeline Project

Husky Oil Operations Limited ("Husky") has chosen Enbridge Pipelines (Athabasca) Inc. ("Enbridge Athabasca") to construct and operate a new pipeline and associated facilities to transport blended bitumen from the Husky-operated Sunrise Energy in situ production project to Enbridge Athabasca's existing Cheecham Terminal.
The Norealis Pipeline will transport blended bitumen (bitumen blended with a diluent such as condensate) from the Sunrise Energy facility to Enbridge Athabasca’s existing Cheecham Terminal, which is located about 60 kilometres south of Fort McMurray. From there the Sunrise production will be transported on Enbridge’s Regional Oil Sands System. The pipeline and facilities will have capacity for other producers in the area as well, to meet increasing demand.
The project is comprised of the following components:
- A new terminal, the Norealis Terminal, which includes one 270,000 barrel diluted bitumen tank and one 90,000 barrel diluent tank, new pump units, interconnecting pipe, and related facilities;
- A 610 mm (24 inch) outside diameter pipeline, approximately 112 km in length, to transport blended bitumen from the Norealis Terminal to Enbridge Athabasca’s existing Cheecham Terminal.
- Facilities at the Sunrise Energy facility, including sending and receiving traps;
- Two new connector pipelines, approximately 9 km in length, between the existing Sunrise Energy facility and the Norealis Terminal (one 254 mm / 10-inch diluent line and one 508 mm / 20-inch diluted bitumen line); and
- Facilities at Enbridge Athabasca’s existing Cheecham Terminal, including one 200,000-barrel diluted bitumen tank and related facilities.
